The scriptwriters are architects, researchers and storytellers. They write scripts that tell the life of influential people such as Tonya in Me Tonya (2017), or building a new world around characters with issues that viewers could relate to. Some of these ideas end up on “The Blacklist”.

Only a number of screenplays outperform the competition, and some films are produced years later than when they were written, and even win distinguished awards.

Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) with David McClaren (Bruce Greenwood) accompanied by their strong team of sled dogs go on an expedition to Antarctica. During their expedition, an unexpected emergency caused Jerry to give up the sled dogs. His decision, combined with the extreme weather conditions in Antarctica, impacted the odds of never seeing the dogs again.

David DiGilio wrote the screenplay for the film eight below (2006) and was blacklisted in 2005. The film was listed as Antarctic based on the 1983 Japanese film Antarctic written by Tatsuo Nogami, Susumu Saji and Eiji Okada. 73% of critics and 79% of rated audiences eight below 3.5 or more on Rotten Tomatoes. eight below is available on Disney+.

Testing strength, stamina, knowledge, and skill against other participants is what typical game shows or quizzes are all about. Likewise, competition in The hunger Games (2012) tested participants’ survival skills while placed in an arena where their environment could change at any time. However, in most competitions, the last competitor wins the prize, but in The hunger Games, the last contestant is the only one to survive the competition.

The hunger Games the films were based on the books written by Suzanne Collins. The film’s screenplay was written by Collins, Gary Ross and Billy Ray and was blacklisted in 2010. 84% of critics and 81% of ratings rated The hunger Games 3.5 or more on Rotten Tomatoes. Older Pi Patel (Irfan Khan) remembers when he found the meaning of life and survival. As a young man, he boarded a freighter carrying zoo animals to Canada. During a catastrophic storm, the freighter capsized and Pi Patel (Suraj Sharma) found a boat with a Bengal tiger. As they drift on the Pacific Ocean, Pi and the tiger slowly come to terms with each other’s presence.

Yann Martel wrote the novel Pi’s life (2012), and the film appeared on the 2006 blacklist. 86% of critics and 84% of audiences rated Pi’s life 3.5 or more on Rotten Tomatoes. Pi’s life included visual effects to create natural realistic animals. The film is available on Hulu.

Django Unchained (2012) — Blacklist 2011

Among Quentin TarantinoThe best films were the western revenge film Django Unchained (2012). Jamie Foxx depicts Django, as a freed slave in search of his wife. Dr. King Shultz (Christopher Waltz) agreed to help Django after Django helped him find his men. Once they realized Django’s wife was on a plantation in Mississippi, they devised a plan to free her.

Tarantino directed and wrote the screenplay for the film Django Unchained, and it appeared on the 2011 blacklist. 86% of critics and 92% of ratings rated Django Unchained a 3.5 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes. Django Unchained is available on Netflix and Paramount+.

Nicholas Cage (like himself) and Pedro Pascal (like Javi Gutierrez) have had their share of bromantic moments in The unbearable weight of massive talent. In the film, Cage’s fictionalized version of himself hit a low point in his acting career. When Javi, a millionaire and die-hard Cage fan, offers Cage $1 million to attend a birthday party, he reluctantly accepts the offer.

Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten wrote the screenplay for the film, and it appeared on the 2019 Blacklist. Rated 87% by critics and 87% by ratings The unbearable weight of massive talent a 3.5 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes. Tonya has won figure skating competitions and mastered the triple axle in one competition. However, her impeccable routines were not what audiences remembered her for.

Me Tonya (2017) described Tonya’s rise to fame and how her plot to take out a rival ruined her reputation. Steven Rogers wrote the screenplay for Me Tonya and it appeared on the 2016 blacklist. 90% of critics and 88% of audiences rated Me Tonya a 3.5 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes. The biographical film Me Tonya is available on Hulu.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) — Blacklist 2007

The structural framework of films usually follows a linear narrative where the main protagonist is introduced followed by their goal or the problem they need to solve, then offers a solution to the problem, and then concludes the film. Slumdog Millionaire (2008) followed a non-linear narrative where Jamal (Dev Patel), raised in the slums of India, made her way to the TV show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? He relied on his past life experiences to help him answer questions about the game show.

Simon Beaufoy wrote the screenplay for the film and it appeared on the 2007 blacklist. Slumdog Millionaire won an Oscar in eight categories, including Best Picture of the Year in 2009. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 91% of critics and 90% of audiences rated Slumdog Millionaire 3.5 or higher. Slumdog Millionaire is available on the Roku channel.

Ellie Chu (Lea Lewis) had a sense of words, and other classmates would come to her when they needed a written essay for a class. Paul asked Ellie to write letters to his crush on his behalf. As Ellie helped Paul explain his feelings, she began to develop feelings for his crush.

Not only was half of it (2020) a teen romance movie, it showed an evolving friendship between two people who may have had nothing in common before they met. The screenplay was written by Alice Wu and was blacklisted 2018. 97% of critics and 81% of audiences rated half of it 3.5 or more on Rotten Tomatoes. half of it is available on Netflix.

Projector (2015) — Blacklist 2013

Projector (2015) describes the events of Boston Globe reporters investigating allegations of child abuse against a Catholic church. By interviewing multiple sources, they discovered that these abuses were not specific to any particular church that deliberately hid their abuses from the public. This scandal affected several Catholic churches.

Projector, written by Josh Singer and Tom McCarthy, provided insight into the important role journalists play in society. These journalists struggled to publish their findings, as these findings exposed the hard truth about a once-respected institution. 97% of critics and 93% of rated audiences Projector a 3.5 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes. Projector appeared on the 2013 blacklist and is available on YouTube.
