Bridgerton author thinks Netflix books and series ‘go well together’
After a record first airing, the Netflix series Bridgerton returned to the streaming service for Season 2 on March 25, 2022. In the same way Bridgerton Season 1 adapted The Duke and I—the first book of Bridgerton’s novels. — season 2 of the drama series adapted the second volume: The viscount who loved me.
In an interview with Initiated, Julia Quinn, the author of the best-selling romance novel series, discussed some of the differences between page and screen. During the two seasons of the TV series, Quinn ceded creative control to Shonda Rimes and her production company Shondaland, saying her involvement was “minimal”, but remained available as a consultant. But she noted that Bridgerton season 2, which focuses on the love story between Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, strayed further from the source material.
“[Season 2] strayed further from the book than season 1, but my attitude towards season 1, and it’s really the same for season 2, is that they go together really well, ”she said. Explain.
“I don’t expect them to be word for word and I don’t want them to be carbon copies,” she added. “It’s really neat, you have those two things that complement each other really well. You can watch the show and read the books and have two separate experiences and one great experience at the same time.
She continued, “I’ve had people say to me, ‘You don’t want everyone saying the book is better?’ And I was like, ‘No, I want the show to be great.’ I want people to have a hard time deciding. It means things are good if people are divided, and the show’s creators chose to emphasize a slightly different aspect of the many relationships that occur in the story.
