“Let’s start today’s newsletter with news on Netflix’s recent announcement ‘Persuasion’. The film adaptation of author Jane Austen’s classic novel will be released on its platform on July 15. Hollywood star Dakota Johnson is the stars in the film, described as a “modern, witty take on a beloved story”, alongside actors Cosmo Jarvis and Henry Golding.
The streaming service shared news of the film’s release in a post on Twitter along with its official trailer. Netflix Film tweeted: “There is always the one who got away. Persuasion, starring Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis and Henry Golding, based on Jane Austen’s beloved novel, hits Netflix on July 15. ”
“Meanwhile, Justin Lin, the director behind many of the Fast and Furious films, is in talks to direct an adaptation of popular Japanese project One Punch Man for Sony. Lin recently left the Fast and Furious franchise as the latest film from the series was still in production.
One Punch Man’s story centers around a superhero named Saitama. He has the power to defeat any foe with a single punch, but soon he grows bored and seeks a greater challenge, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, the duo known for Jumanji: The Next Level and Venom, worked on the script.
“After teasing Jane Foster and Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor in the promos, director Taika Waititi said he was excited to release this new version of the character in the upcoming MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi recently chatted with Fandango about the upcoming Marvel movie and Natalie Portman’s character in the Thor movies.
Hemsworth said it was “great” to reunite with Portman in this new world, which is very different from where their characters first saw each other. Besides Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth, the film stars Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Taika Waititi and Tessa Thompson in key roles. It is released on July 7 in India.
Moving on, Oscar winner Lady Gaga is in talks to play Harley Quinn in ‘Joker: Folie a Deux,’ which was reportedly billed as a ‘musical’ sequel to director Todd’s 2019 blockbuster. Phillips.
Last week, the filmmaker confirmed the Joker sequel in an Instagram post, which also revealed that Joaquin Phoenix, who played the titular character in the Warner Bros/DC film, is set to reprise his role. “Meanwhile, Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a film about Thunderbolts, Marvel Comics’ anti-hero/villain team similar to DC’s Suicide Squad. Jake Schreier, known for Robot & Frank and Paper Towns, has been recruited as director, and Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is writing the screenplay.
Thunderbolts have a similar origin story to the Suicide Squad, in that they were former supervillains who turned into heroes to protect the earth in the absence of the Avengers. Again, like Suicide Squad, the Thunderbolts are sent on a mission to save the world and it’s Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt) who stars as Amanda Waller with Suicide Squad. Unlike Suicide Squad, Thunderbolts has the advantage of having already explored the member journey.
Finally, two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins is set to star in Rebel Moon, a sci-fi adventure film directed by Zack Snyder.
The film, installed on Netflix, also stars Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Doona, Staz Nair and Corey Stoll, among others.
Rebel Moon tells the story of a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruler named Balisarius.
Desperate, the civilians send a young woman (played by Boutella), who has a mysterious past, to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the Regent.
