Florence Pugh Wanted to Play Princess Irulan in ‘Dune’ Sequel
Florence Pugh is reportedly in talks to join the cast of ‘Dune: Part 2’.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 26-year-old actress is being eyed for the new role of Princess Irulan, the yet-to-be-cast daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV, in the second half of the nominated adaptation. Oscars by Denis Villeneuve. from the cult classic of science fiction.
There are three roles to fill, including Feyd-Rautha, the sadistic young nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, who is the nemesis of Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet).
Florence is said to be waiting for the final draft of the script to be read before agreeing to join the sequel, while making sure her schedule is free to shoot the film.
The director previously confirmed that filming would begin “by the end of the summer.”
‘Dune: Part 2’ will be released in 2023, with Timothee, Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) and Zendaya (Chani) reprising all their roles, and Denis recently admitted that it will be “more difficult” than the first film.
He said: “I will say it’s mostly designed. What helps us right now is that it’s my first time revisiting a universe. So I’m working with the same crew, everyone knows what to do, we know what it will look like.
“The movie will be more difficult, but we know where we’re coming in. And the script is written. So I’m confident. Frankly, the only big unknown for me right now is the pandemic.”
‘Dune’ garnered 10 Oscar nominations, but some fans were unhappy with the lack of focus on villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), which Denis says was the result of Frank Herbert’s two-film adaptation of the novel. .
The 54-year-old director said: “When you adapt, you have to make bold choices to bring things to life. In the second, I want to have more flexibility, and it will be possible to go a little more deep into some of those details.”
Denis continued: “It’s like a game of chess. New characters will be introduced in part two and a decision I made early on was that part one would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, and his experience of being in touch for the first time with a different culture. .
“Second part, there will be a lot more Harkonnen stuff.”
