HBO’s latest update could be disappointing for fans hoping for more spinoffs and prequels after ‘House of the Dragon’

game of thrones ended its run three years ago. And now, Dragon House will be the first spin-off to arrive on HBO. But could it also be the last? Fans who were hoping for more spinoffs and prequels after Dragon House might be disappointed with the latest update from HBO vice president of programming Kara Buckley.
How many ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-offs are in the works?
When game of thrones became a global phenomenon a decade ago, it seemed like a sure thing that HBO would try to capitalize on that success by expanding the Obtained television universe. But when creators David Benioff and DB Weiss ended the series with such a contentious season 8, the future of this universe became less certain.
The first planned prequel series starring Naomi Watts was set 10,000 years before the events of the original show, but HBO chose not to pick it up. The next was Dragon House, which secured a 10-episode order. And there would be even more series in development.

According to author George RR Martin, a project formerly known as Nine trips is now called The sea serpent. It will focus on Corlys Velaryon, a character portrayed by Steve Toussaint in Dragon House.
There is also ten thousand ships, a story following a character named Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell. It would take place 1000 years before game of thrones. Also in the works is the Tales of Dunk and Egg series, which will be “a faithful adaptation” to the news.
“The first season will be an adaptation of the first short story, The Hedge Knightsaid Martin, per Weekly entertainment.
HBO’s latest update could be disappointing for fans hoping for more spinoffs and prequels
Martin told his fans that he was “not allowed” to talk about most of what is happening with the series in development at HBO. But he seems a lot more optimistic about more spinoffs and prequels than HBO vice president of programming Kara Buckley.
At the recent ATX Television Festival in Texas, Buckley discussed the future of the Obtained world of television during a panel entitled “Futurescape: a look into the future”. She confirmed that “a lot of ideas” had been developed, but nothing beyond Dragon House is not a guarantee.
“We developed a lot of ideas, we were still developing a lot of ideas, and I think we’re really excited about the one that’s coming out later this summer,” Buckley said, per The sun. “But we don’t feel the need to do another one unless it feels really creatively exciting to us.”
‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Not Involved
After the end of game of thrones, Weiss and Benioff left HBO and signed a deal with Netflix. So they are not involved in Dragon House or any of the other spin-offs and prequels in development.

Martin is involved as an executive producer, as Dragon House is based on his 2018 novel Fire & Blood. The author has also seen concept art for other projects, and he says things are “moving really fast.” However, it remains to be seen if any of these in-development shows will actually air.
Dragon House premieres Sunday, August 21 on HBO.
